Pages work in the House of Commons Chamber under the direction of a group of supervisors and a coordinator. They provide various services to Members of Parliament, the Speaker and Chair Occupants, and Table Officers. For example, Pages collect and distribute official documents, deliver messages to Members, serve as a link between Members and their Hill offices, answer telephone calls, and make photocopies. On occasion, Pages also meet with youth groups to speak about their duties and their experience on Parliament Hill. They are tactful, discreet and considerate, with strong client orientation, communications and interpersonal skills.</p></div><div class="PostingPrerequisitesSection"><span class="PostingPrerequisitesSectionTitle">Education</span><ul><li>Be graduating from high school or CEGEP (with no academic interruptions) and starting full-time studies at one of the four universities in the National Capital Region in September of the year of employment as a Page.</li></ul></div><div class="PostingPrerequisitesSection"><span class="PostingPrerequisitesSectionTitle">Experience</span><ul><li>Have obtained an overall academic average of at least 80% the previous year (Grade 11, secondary IV, secondary V or your first year of CEGEP in Quebec), and subsequently maintain this average (official transcripts to be provided).</li></ul></div><div class="PostingPrerequisitesSection"><span class="PostingPrerequisitesSectionTitle">Specific Requirements</span><ul><li>Be able to orally communicate fluently in both official languages.</li><li>Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident.</li></ul></div><div class="PostingCompetencies"><p>Candidates must:</p><p>- possess superior interpersonal skills;<br />- show sound judgement and be reliable, tactful and courteous; and<br />- demonstrate an interest in learning about the Canadian parliamentary system.</p></div> The purpose of this recruitment and selection process is to staff 40 positions of Page for a contract duration of one year starting in late August 2021. Under the terms of their contract, Pages are paid $16,848 in 26 equal payments over a 12-month period. In addition, a sum of $1,200 is paid at the end of the employment period for successful completion of the contract.<div class="PostingEssentialInformation"><ul><li>In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and further to public health guidelines, preventative measures are being taken to ensure health and safety during the recruitment process. </li><li>Work location: National Capital Region.</li><li>To be considered, candidates must submit an official transcript of their marks from the previous year and a curriculum vitae (maximum of two pages) in Microsoft Word.
